  • Barley: GrainCorp given green light for Aussie exports

GrainCorp has today been given the green light to
immediately begin bulk barley exports after being
awarded the first of the new bulk barley export
licences for South Australia. Managing director, Tom
Keene, says "opening the barley market in South
Australia will benefit growers as a number of
companies compete to buy their grain."

Rice: Chinese Farmers Battle A Plague of Mice

Since they first appeared this year in mid-June, more
than 2 billion field mice have been killed, according to
state media reports. Three cities on the banks of
Dongting Lake have been overwhelmed with millions
of rodents fleeing water-logged homes, as parts of
central and southern China suffer one of the worst
    flood seasons in 50 years.

Iran Asks Japan to Pay Yen for Oil, Start Immediately

Iran asked Japanese refiners to switch to the yen to
pay for all crude oil purchases, after Iran's central
bank said it is reducing holdings of the U.S. dollar.
Iran isn't alone in wanting to drop the dollar for pricing
oil. Russia has been examining plans to price the
Urals oil export blend in rubles to curb currency risks.

Copper: As prices skyrocket, so do vandals' deaths

Firefighters weren't sure what was causing the smoke
rising from a former discount store in this Baltimore
suburb. The place had been abandoned for years, the
interior stripped to the walls. When they got inside
July 2, they found only one thing burning: a 41-year-old
man who became engulfed in flames and died after
    cutting through a high-voltage line.
